Unit Job Summary
Clinical Trials/Contracts Manager: Facilitate the development and initiation of clinical trials within the Department of Medicine. Build and negotiate clinical trial budgets and contract terms, on behalf of faculty and the Department, with industry, federal, and private funding agencies. Advise Department faculty and staff on matters related to clinical trial budgets and contracts in a clear and professional manner. Read and interpret clinical trial study documents including Protocol, Budget, Contract, Informed Consent, and Laboratory Manual. Ensure document harmonization and compliance, and facilitate timely execution of agreements. Successfully interact with other departments, core facilities, and administrative offices to ensure efficient operation at all levels. Establish professional relationships with pharmaceutical, CRO, and non-profit counterparts to facilitate amicable and timely negotiations. Contribute to data analysis, using established and novel metrics, to advance Unit and Department efficiency and profitability. Monitor processing of Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and approval of clinical trial protocols. Manage multiple concurrent projects, paying special attention to competing deadlines, complexity, and priority.
Bachelor's degree required.
Advanced degree in relevant field preferred.
At least two years of administrative experience required.
At least two years of experience in budget development and negotiation preferred.
Experience in clinical trial initiation and management, ideally for a large academic medical institution, preferred. Project management experience preferred.
Strong computer skills including word processing, database management, and spreadsheet skills required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Attention to detail required. Ability to be flexible and adaptable required. Knowledge of general accounting standards and auditing required. Strong organizational skills required. Strong financial and analytic skills required. Ability to research issues and propose solutions to problems required. Demonstrated initiative in improving processes and enhancing systems required. Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion and tact required. Time management skills and the ability to handle multiple, concurrent tasks within deadlines required. Ability to work with individuals from across the division and university required.
Knowledge of research methods and funding sources preferred. Knowledge of clinical trials preferred. Knowledge of federal and non-federal regulations for grant management preferred. Knowledge of fund accounting preferred. Familiarity with federal and non-federal grant and contract policies preferred.
