Unit Job Summary

The Research Specialist 1 position focuses on the role of somatic mutations in SPOP and nuclear interactions of PELP1 in breast and prostate cancer. The Technician will assist in performing microscopy and cell biology studies involving prostate cancer cell lines. Techniques used include: routine mammalian cell culture and molecular biology methods, generation and use of lentiviral vectors, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, microscope sample preparation and imaging and computer-assisted image analyses. Duties include: Microscope imaging, cellular imaging and data analyses, maintaining and generating cells lines, generation of lentiviral vectors and virus for cell line generation, maintaining lab supplies and equipment, and preparing reports and figures for lab presentations and publications.


Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted required.


A minimum of one year of relevant research experience preferred.


Knowledge in relevant scientific field required. Knowledge of research techniques or methods required. Knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures required. Analytical skills required. Problem-solving skills required. Attention to detail required. Organizational skills required. Verbal and written communication skills required.
