About the Unit
The Finance Office is a unit within the Dean's Office. It currently contains a total staff of 11 people. This unit works closely with the Hospital and University finance offices, the departments' management and finance team, other Dean's Office management and staff, and University Financial Services staff.
Unit Job Summary
Senior Finance Analyst: Serves as a liaison with financial administrators within operational units on financial, budget, and accounting issues. Leads efforts to assess, modify and/ or develop and implement more timely and consistent processes/systems to increase efficiency, accuracy and meaningfulness of information. Prepares and/or advises others on operational budgets for departments or other operational units. Provides analytical support for more complex budget projects. Analyzes budget estimates and proposals for completeness; accuracy; and conformance with established procedures, regulations, and organizational objectives. May employ cost-benefit analyses to review financial requests, assess program tradeoffs, and explore alternative funding methods. Consolidates individual budgets into operating and capital budget summaries which argue for or against funding requests. Submits budget summaries to management. Assists managers in analyzing the proposed plan and devising possible alternatives if the projected results are unsatisfactory. Maintains and tracks key business drivers, such as volume, capacity, payor mix, rate increases, clinical expense ratios and other expenses. Prepares and deploys status reports to key users, providing meaningful information on projects, budgets and budget variances, statistics and productivity. Assists in monitoring Faculty effort and incentive plans. Develops and maintains clinical dashboards. Works with all levels of organization (including all levels of management) to answer inquiries and provide information, assist with financial improvement action plans and complete various financial analysis projects. Uses benchmark data for planning and incorporates it into analysis and presentations. Assesses the efficiency and effectiveness of programs before new programs begin or existing programs are changed. Recommends changes to systems and procedures to ensure conformance with budgetary provisions. Provide training and education, as needed to management and staff outside of Finance.
Bachelor's degree required.
Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, accounting, statistics, or economics preferred. MBA or advanced degree in finance, public policy, not-for-profit administration, healthcare administration, or a related field preferred.
A minimum of five years of financial analysis experience required. Experience in Healthcare, University or a not-for-profit organization required.
Experience in an Academic Medical Center with demonstrated skills in financial analysis preferred.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, financial computing, and database software applications required. Knowledge of various financial principles, practices, and applications including budgeting, financial planning, and financial reporting required. Intellectual versatility and creativity required. Strong analytical and organizational skills required. Ability to think strategically and translate into operational objectives required. Ability to independently develop and analyze alternative solutions and make recommendations required. Ability to work closely with senior Division Management required. Ability to work effectively under considerable time pressure on high visibility, high stakes projects required. Strong educational background with focus in economics, business, or related technical field required. Strong practical knowledge of financial analysis methodologies required. Exceptionally strong financial modeling skills required. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required. Demonstrated ability to think strategically, independently develop and evaluate options, and translate findings into operational objectives required. Ability to establish and maintain relationships at all organizational levels required. Ability to work closely and effectively with senior University leadership required. Flexibility and ability to work effectively and gracefully under considerable time pressure on high visibility, high stakes projects required. Intellectual versatility and creativity required. Ability to work non-traditional hours when necessary required.
