Gensler is seeking aTechnical Directorto help direct the Quality Assurance efforts for all of the Interiors Projects in our Chicago office.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for integration and oversight of technical work within the interior architectural practice for both new and renovated Projects. This position requires participation with multiple projects and multiple project teams to achieve the Firm’s goals related to project design and technical quality including construction quality and process, while satisfying client requirements.

Candidate will participate / collaborate within the existing Technical Leadership of the Chicago Office as well as Gensler’s North Central Region (MN and DT Offices) and across the platform of the Firm in order to develop projects that achieve distinctiveness and recognition for clients and the Firm. Periodic travel to Minneapolis and Detroit will be necessary.

Candidate must embrace a proactive approach to quality assurance by regularly meeting with team leadership to review the work product, solve problems and offer suggestions that embrace the design intent of the Project.

Strong mentoring skills with the patience and willingness to work and develop young staff are required.

Responsibilities will vary by Project and by Project phase, but may include building code review; accessibility review, detail development, specification writing or specification assistance as may be applicable; shop drawing reviews and construction administration of critical or specialized systems (as deemed necessary by each team) as well as overall production quality assurance.

Candidate will participate in the maintenance of existing (or development of) production or procedural standards in concert with other office Technical Directors (drawing standards, spec standards, documentation standards, CA standards, etc.) and dovetail with the Office Librarian on product research and presentations.

Professional Requirements of the Candidate:

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in architecture or interior design.

Familiarity with the Chicago Building Code; International Building Code; and applicable NFPA life safety documents.

Familiarity with the accessibility design within the Americans for Disabilities Act and ICC/ANSI Standards.

A minimum of 15 years of architectural experience with a strong interior architectural portfolio for which the candidate was directly responsible for the management of the production documents and the technical team. A licensed architect with a mastery of interiors based detailing and construction techniques is desired.

A commitment to the principles of sustainable design and experience integrating them on specific projects. LEED professional accreditation is desirable.

Proficient within AutoCAD. Functionally experienced with BIM and Revit.

Although Client contact is not a direct resultant of this position, the Candidate must be able to build and sustain relationships with Clients as is necessary during the course of the Project, and as a potential trusted advisor after completion.
