Essendant Security and Loss Prevention Manager in Deerfield, Illinois

Primary Purpose

Develops and implements the Security strategy and program for Essendant and all operating entities. Identifies, prioritizes, and manages the security infrastructure, processes and threats for all Essendant’s facilities and operations. Establishes effective loss prevention systems, policies, and procedures to safeguard associates, property, physical assets, and intellectual properties.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leads the development and design of the Essendant Security Strategic Plan, including policies, procedures, loss prevention systems and methods, access control strategies, alarm systems, surveillance equipment and strategies, and all other security related equipment.

  • Manages the design, specifications, and implementation of all security capital projects

  • Develops capital requirements and budget estimates for security equipment and infrastructure.

  • Develops policies, procedures, and strategies to minimize loss potential and protect the inventory and assets of the Company.

  • Designs, develops and manages Essendant’s security incident reporting methods and procedures. Document incidents and evaluate for trends and patterns.

  • Measures region and facility performance on loss prevention programs through the use of security dashboards, scorecards and checklists.

  • Manages all security investigation activities and those required third party service providers.

  • Understands and demonstrates Essendant’s Core Values.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Strong background in managing the security operations at a corporation with multiple facilities.

  • Understanding of security related technologies including alarm systems, access control systems, and video surveillance systems. Experience and working knowledge of the Genetec security platform is a plus.

  • Exceptional verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills and ability to communicate business issues in a clear and concise manner.

  • Proven ability to interact with all levels of management to communicate results, policies, and strategic direction.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Ability to drive continuous improvement and change in the security organization.

  • Intermediate experience in MS WORD, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Knowledge of SharePoint and other web based reporting mechanisms.

  • Overnight travel to visit facilities.
