This position is located within the FACSUP PATIENT ADMINISTRATION at the CAPT James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) in North Chicago, IL. The FHCC is a first-of-its-kind partnership between the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), and Department of Navy (DoN)/Department of Defense (DoD). It is larger than just a single facility, but rather it is a fully-integrated medical care facility with a single combined VA and Navy mission. The combined mission of the FHCC means active duty military and their family members, military retirees, and eligible veterans receive health care at this facility. Additionally, the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is the largest single provider of graduate medical education training sites in the U.S., with as many as one-third of the nation's resident physicians receiving part or all of their training in VA health care facilities. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Patient Funds Clerk, responsible for performing daily all clerical procedures required. Provide accurate and up to date accounting information of all personal funds for patients that are deposited. Other duties of the position would typically include but are not limited to:
Verifies the accuracy of withdrawal documents pertaining to a given block of accounts.
Posts verified deposits and withdrawals.
Reviews deposits to avoid withdrawals prior to the clearance date.
Verifies individual account balances for accuracy.
Monitors all accounts for appropriateness of withdrawals.
Work Schedule: 1st Shift 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-04) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:

- Correcting discrepancies on documents.

Successful completion of 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05.
