The Medical Assistant performs all of the activities, which enhance patient care and contribute to the organization and efficiency of the department. The Medical Assistant provides all aspects of clinical care within their realm of clinical competence as delegated and supervised by the physician/provider.
Job Description Details:
- CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPPORT: Provides support to follow the mission and values of Mercy Medical Group (“MMG”) and promote a caring empathetic environment for our patients.
Greets patient, introduces self to patient, and provides instructions on appointments and procedures. Controls the patient flow in the clinic for the physicians and communicates to reception/registration staff with delays when necessary. Works cooperatively with the reception/registration staff to provide a positive patient experience.
- CLINICAL SUPPORT: Provides support for the delivery of quality care.
Prepares patients for their examination with assigned physician/provider pursuant to established protocol. Must obtain and properly document vitals, patient history and medications in the electronic medical record (e.g. height, weight, Blood Pressure, temperature, history, medications, allergies, etc.). Performs other related duties aimed at facilitating efficient medical care as directed by the physician/provider (e.g. EKG, Nebulizer treatments, flu swabs, ear irrigations, etc.). Responsible for assisting the physician. Performs EKGs as directed by physician/provider according to Cardivascular lab protocol. Assists in maintaining patient medical recor d by completing all required documentation and forms and ensures all diagnostic reports are present. Responsible for patient teaching and Education. Collects and processes patient specimens per lab protocol, including completion of appropriate requisition and documentation. Administers injections per physician/provider order, ensuring all patient rights are maintained, including appropriate documentation. Provide a Vaccine Information Sheet (VIS) to the patient/parent. Answer patient, outside hospital / clinical, and all internal phone calls in a pleasant, professional manner. Responsible for discharging patients and reviewing Physician instructions. Cover for other staff as deemed necessary. Participates in continuing education programs and all assigned meetings.
Serves as a mentor to medical assistant externs as directed. Play a lead role in the training of new staff to the department.
- QUALITY SUPPORT: Maintain a clean and quality driven environment for our patients.
Maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies and medications, and further ensures that all outdated supplies and medications are removed from inventory. Clean exam rooms, tables and equipment and maintain a well-stocked room for the next work day. Follows company safety standards and OSHA guidelines. Following MMG company values and service standards. Maintains confidentiality of all information following company policy and HIPAA. Must maintain certifications and licenses and keep current.
Participates in Quality Improvement activities as directed.
- ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT: Maintain accurate scheduling and billing protocols.
Schedules patient appointments pursuant to physician/provider protocol. Assists in ensuring that all billing encounter forms are accurate and consist of all services provided. Performs all other duties as assigned. Participates in continuing education programs and all assigned meetings.
Enter and obtain referrals/pre-authorizations for specialty care, Durable Medical Equipment (“DME”), procedures and testing.
