The Respiratory Care Manager (Manager) has primary responsibility for implementing respiratory services within the organization. As a liaison between respiratory, and disciplines throughout the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (SRAlab), the Manager promotes organizational goals, interdisciplinary and interdepartmental team collaboration.



The Manager makes executive decisions, ensuring the efficient operations of the unit and allocates fiscal and human resources appropriately to ensure the delivery of quality cost efficient care.



The Manager consistently demonstrates support of the statement of Mission and Philosophy by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

Principal Responsibilitiesn

The Respiratory Care Manager:





+ Initiates and implements quality improvements in individual, team and organizational performance utilizing RICQI and other mechanisms and facilitates resolution of quality issues (i.e. response time, satisfaction, falls).



+ Develops and optimizes the performance of team members, resulting in goal attainment, staff motivation and talent retention.



+ Recruits hires and coaches staff to ensure optimal performance.



+ Oversees orientation, training and professional growth and development needs of staff.



+ Conducts performance appraisals to ensure accurate and timely evaluations.



+ Establishes, builds, and sustains effective professional relationships.



+ Communicates effectively with patients, families and staff to ensure a high level of satisfaction and to prevent and resolve conflict in a timely manner.



+ Maintains current knowledge of clinical practices and developments and shares that knowledge and skills as appropriate with staff.



+ Pursues learning to continuously improve one's own leadership skills, shares knowledge liberally and acknowledges own development needs.



+ In partnership with other managers, provides policy and practice leadership within the organization.



+ Practices in accordance with professional practice standards for respiratory care therapists.



+ Participates in professional development activities such as education programs, committees and professional organizations that promote the improvement of respiratory care.



+ Practices in accordance with evidence based practice standards.



+ Applies research to clinical practice and participates in research studies.



+ Collaborates with Medical Director, Respiratory Clinical Educator in writing and maintaining policies/procedures/protocols.



+ Commits to and attains high standards of excellence and innovation.



+ Demonstrates financial and business acumen.



+ Ensures clinical charting is completed to established standards all billing entries are entered in a timely manner.



+ Coordinates work flow to ensure departmental commitments and standards of quality care are met.



+ Provides and reports accurate information regarding unusual incident reports and personnel issues to the manager for follow up.



+ Responds to urgent issues such as a disaster alerts, emergencies, and employee injury appropriately and in a timely manner.



+ Oversees and develops operating and capital budgets, managing resources to budget and volume.



+ Dem nstrates a vision for own function, and acts with the broader benefit of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in mind.



+ Analyzes, designs, plans, executes and oversees projects with own function, other work groups and organizationally.



+ Effectively leads teams and individuals to ensure execution of goals and projects.



+ Ensures adequate inventory of supplies, materials and equipment required for department; maintain liaison with equipment and supply vendors.



+ Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of SRAlab





Reporting Relationshipsn







+ Reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer





Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requiredn







+ A professional level of knowledge generally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) from an accredited program.



+ Two to four years clinical experience in a leadership/supervisory role.



+ Licenses/certifications required:





+ Illinois State Licensure for Respiratory Care Practitioner



+ National Board for Respiratory Care, Registered Respiratory Therapist



+ Basic Cardiac Life Support certified, American Heart Association



+ Advanced Cardiac Life Support certified, American Heart Association



+ Pediatric Advanced Life Support certified, American Heart Association
