The Career Opportunity: Director of Sales

Reporting to the Director of Sales and Marketing, the Director of Sales manages the group and contract transient rooms sales effort of the hotel. This includes securing new accounts, maintaining existing accounts, supervising activities of sales personnel and executing sales and marketing strategies to maximize the profitability of the hotel while maintaining customer satisfaction. Responsible for achievement of personal sales goals for assigned accounts.


  • Directs the day-to-day activities of hotel sales team

  • Providing leadership and motivation necessary to implement marketing plan and effective sales activities to maximize the generation of hotel sales/revenues

  • Develops and maintains relationships with key clients in order to produce group and/or convention business, to include room sales, food & beverage sales, and catering/banquet services

  • Collaborates in the development of and manages the sales departmental travel, trade show and entertainment budget

  • Monitors sales activities/performance to ensure actual sales meet or exceed established revenue plan and accurately report variances/projections to management

  • Directs the scheduling of conventions and business group activities at the hotel

  • Coordinates with other hotel-level departments to facilitate services agreed upon by the sales office and prospective clients

  • Develops hotel-level tactical sales plans to support overall system-wide sales plans/strategies and programs

  • Develops and maintains good relationships with officials and representatives of local community groups and companies

  • Attends out-of-town conventions to generate convention and group business

  • Collaborates with the Director of Sales & Marketing in the development and update of the hotel-level business plan to include input on sales goals and plans that support the overall business and sales strategies of the company

  • Participates in hiring, training, and providing career development for all group and transient contract sales personnel

  • Collaborates with Director of Sales and Marketing and conducts performance evaluations and provides feedback to employees

  • Serves as member of Management Team, acts as Manager on Duty (when required) and works with other management personnel to establish and implement hotel service standards to achieve maximum profitability and efficiency

  • Perform other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned



  • 4-year degree in Business, Marketing, Hospitality Management, or other related field

  • At least 5 years in a leadership sales position within the hotel industry

  • At least 3 years experience in a sales management position within a similar size, luxury brand hotel

  • Previous management experience over a group sales team strongly preferred

  • Must be able to travel to attend workshops, tradeshows, conventions, etc.

  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to motivate and manage others

  • Strong interpersonal skills
