SmithBucklin, a 100 percent employee-owned association management company, is looking for anHRManager-- HRIS, Operations and Compensationto join theHuman Resourcesteam in ourChicagooffice. Manage, initiate and oversee HR operations, process improvement and delivery of HR services company-wide. Coach and manage a small team of HR specialists to deliver service and administration of HR programs with a focus on efficiency, data and technology. Contribute to strategic discussions with HR leadership and HR projects in support of the company’s business strategy.The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop two centers of expertise, namely compensation and data analytics.

What You Will Do

HR Operations

  • Delivers high quality HR data management; owns and manages employee data and accuracy across the employee life-cycle

  • Establishes and leads HR Operation Review process to improve service to employees and overall efficiency

  • Responsible for annual processes inclusive of but not limited to salary increases, performance reviews

  • Owns HRIS, acting as a super-user and oversees HRIS vendor relationship(s)

  • Oversees the data flow between HR systems and ensures data accuracy

  • Consults with HRBPs and recruiters on employee changes to ensure decisions and related communications are handled effectively and consistently

  • Works with centers of expertise and management to provide implementation support for the development of new programs and processes

  • Participates actively as HR operations lead in cross functional project teams and manages HR projects

  • Ensures HR processes and policies meet federal and state compliance requirements

  • Serves as main point of contact for all internal and external HR reporting and process audits

  • Creates, manages, and publishes calendar for HR related annual events & high level projects

  • Conducts an annual review of the employee handbook and is responsible for operationalizing policy changes

  • Supervise, develop and coach HR specialists providing direction, guidance and support related to HR programs

Reporting & Analytics

  • Identify, recommend, develop and own HR metrics and reporting

  • Identifies business challenges and influences change through the use of data analysis

  • Provides reporting at regular intervals to HR and senior management


  • Collaborates with HRBP’s and key business stakeholder to support compensation related activities such as new hire offers, salary increases, budget preparation and local market issues

  • Maps out and benchmarks compensation structures and review processes

  • Performs market data collection and analysis, both annually and ad hoc

  • Develop systems to report salary ranges and changes in local markets

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business or related field

  • Minimum 7+ years of HR experience; professional services industry experience preferred

  • Strong MS Office skills to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

  • Experience working with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Proven ability to work with senior management

  • Experience juggling multiple assignments

  • Demonstrated ability to proactively present new HR ideas and strategies

  • Creative and strategic thinker

  • Meticulous attention to detail

  • Experience leading, coaching and developing a team
