Requirements for summer internship

Prospective summer interns must be at least 18 years of age and should be enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate degree program.

This is a full-time, hourly position: 40 hours/week, Monday through Friday.

If selected, interns are responsible for securing housing for the summer.

Individuals who have held internship positions with the churchwide organization in the past are not eligible.

Preferred start date is June 4, 2018.End date to be determined based on return to school date.

Position summary

This position will be part of a cohort of ELCA World Hunger interns and will require working closely with two other interns on shared projects and priorities. This will include participating in weekly cohort meetings; shared learning across all aspects of ELCA World Hunger (e.g. education, fundraising, network engagement); and collaboration on common projects.

Specifically, the intern in this position will support the individual and congregational fundraising activities of ELCA World Hunger, including written and phone contact with individuals and congregation leaders to thank, survey, set appointments, and provide information about how their gifts have been used to carry out mission and ministry. The intern in this position will also compile data and trends to support fundraising activities, prepare brief written posts for social media and network communication, and provide onsite and team support for ELCA World Hunger at the ELCA National Youth Gathering.

Physical Effort.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. This position requires sitting for long periods of time. Reasonable accommodations can be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Required Experience:

Strong written and verbal communication skills in one-on-one and group settings; ability to work well with a team; ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects; enthusiasm for the ministry of the ELCA; and understanding of and desire to deepen knowledge of the root causes of hunger.

Desire to be involved in fundraising required. Knowledge and experience in development work a plus. Basic knowledge of the ELCA and the work of ELCA World Hunger preferred. Willingness to travel, if needed.
