Essendant Program Manager -Customer Care in Deerfield, Illinois

Primary Purpose

The Program Manager will partner with leadership to design and organize large, complex strategic enterprise programs that have business and IT impacts. The successful candidate will be responsible for governance and planning across the program to ensure program operates effectively to ensure benefits and objectives are achieved.


Programs would typically span multiple years, involve several work streams/projects, and have costs of up to several millions of dollars.

Major Responsibilities

  • Construct and organize optimal program plan architecture - prioritize, link and align projects within program based on dependencies, benefit considerations, resource needs

  • Oversight of implementation of program strategy and objectives

  • Coordinate cross functional projects across the entire program environment to ensure program benefits are achieved

  • Partner with sponsors and business leaders to manage execution of program plan throughout entire lifecycle stages of program

  • Monitor program scope, identify risks and create associated mitigation plans, drive issue resolution

  • Provide oversight that all compliance requirements are addressed by business leaders within the program

  • Create and manage program communication and status reporting to support transparency to senior leadership

  • Facilitate program and project meetings

  • Provide project management support, as needed

Skills/Knowledge Required

  • Demonstrated successful results in managing and delivering complex IT and business programs

  • Expert in program / project planning and risk management practices

  • Proven ability to recognize upstream and downstream impacts across projects and overall program

  • Deep working knowledge of program management principles and disciplines using leading methodologies (Agile, SDLC,RAD, Waterfall)

  • Broad experience interfacing and presenting to all levels of the organization and influencing senior leadership

  • Effectively lead a project team of varying skills in a diverse environment with changing demands

  • Experience with influencing program and project team members in a matrix environment

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details

  • Expert MS Office (PowerPoint, MS Project, Word), Strong skills in MS Excel

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience managing large complex business / IT programs and projects in large enterprise environment (fortune 500)

  • Minimum 7 + yrs experience managing (both project and program experience) full life-cycle IT projects utilizing Agile, SDLC, or Iterative methodologies

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, technical discipline or equivalent experience

  • PgMP or PMP Certification
