Rand McNally is seeking an experienced and highly-motivated Vice President of Operations to join our dynamic, fast growing company. The VP of Operations will be responsible for all manufacturing, purchasing and supply chain activities within the company. This executive will lead an experienced team of employees that manages the company’s network of suppliers with an overall focus on getting the highest levels of quality and support from suppliers and on fostering long-term partnerships. He or she will work closely with R&D; to bring a wide variety of products to market on-time and on-budget and with other functions to ensure that Rand McNally operates in a productive and efficient manner. The Vice President of Operations will ensure that our products and services meet stringent quality standards. He or she will unceasingly drive the company’s annual COGS reduction efforts and make substantive, ongoing financial contributions to the business unit P&Ls.; The VP will report directly to the CEO.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute global purchasing and supply chain strategies and activities.
  • Provide responsible and effective leadership to the domestic and Asian-based operations team.

  • Lead supplier selection and management. Develop a keen understanding of short and long-term supply/demand/capacity capabilities of ODM and contract manufacturer partners. Manage component lead time and evaluate associate supply chain risks.

  • Uphold product and service quality standards. Manage, track and improve customer satisfaction levels. Protect Rand McNally’s valuable brand equity through a relentless focus on quality products.

  • Lead the company’s S&OP; process and achieve targeted inventory levels and turns.

  • Improve the speed-to-market of products and services through effect vendor management.

  • Drive the company’s annual COGS reduction activities and help strengthen business unit P&Ls.;

  • Manage distribution, logistics and reverse logistics. Oversee product refurbishment activities.

  • Work closely with the R&D; and the product development teams to meet product cost and schedule targets.

  • Work closely with functional leaders to constantly improve the company’s productivity and efficiency.

  • Develop, modify and maintain departmental processes, procedures and metrics that deliver on key operational objectives.

  • Deliver monthly operational reviews to senior management.

  • Work to ensure all sourcing and production processes are in accordance and compliant with Rand McNally codes of ethical and responsible practices

Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree, preferably in Supply Chain, Operations or Engineering. MBA and/or CPIM certification a plus

  • Proven financial, strategic, operations and production skills

  • Workflow management experience

  • Experience in the consumer electronics and commercial electronic industry a plus

  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral

  • The ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure

  • The ability to work as part of a team

  • Ability to constantly innovate

  • Good organizational skills, time management and problem solving skills

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Proven ability to work in a growing/changing environment

  • Present at monthly business reviews.

  • Work with product management on product availability, cost and quality improvements

  • Constantly monitor and manage inventory levels to company targets.

  • Develop cost strategies for product design and production.

  • Define, develop and make effective use of cost analysis tools

  • Understand company’s current and future product road map and ensure supply base readiness.

  • Identifying training needs

  • Approach problems that arise with optimism and a collaborative, problem-solving mentality. Involve the right people early in the process.

  • Obtain appropriate and factual data and insures the team members have sufficient information and guidance to make effective decisions

  • Review active inventory for slow and obsolete stock and drives recommendation on surplus opportunity

All Other Requirements (as appropriate):

  • Domestic and international travel up to 30 percent.

  • Morning or evening calls with international suppliers
